Zumba Mosquito Trap Frequently Asked Questions

    General Use:

    • Where is the best place to put my Zumba Mosquito Trap?

The Zumba Mosquito Trap can be placed wherever necessary, such as a patio, a deck, or a campsite.    Ideally, the trap should be placed out of the way of traffic in a sheltered area with minimal wind. Avoid placing the trap in heavy traffic where children and pets may disturb it.

    • Where can I plug in my Zumba Mosquito Trap?

Even though the trap will most likely be placed outdoors, the trap should be plugged into a house outlet.

    • Can I use my Zumba Mosquito Trap indoors?

Yes, your trap will be effective indoors.  However, the CO2 tank is not recommended or necessary for indoors and can be removed from the trap or turned off.

    • Can I use my trap when it rains or if I turn the sprinklers on?

Yes, the performance of the Zumba Mosquito Trap is not affected by precipitation.   However, the quality of the mosquitoes caught by the trap is jeopardized, a relevant concern if mosquitoes are to be identified.

    • What insects will my trap catch?

The Zumba Mosquito Trap is designed to capture blood-feeding insects.   However, other insects attracted to people may also be captured.  One advantage of SkinLure is that it preferentially attracts more human-feeding mosquito species than other mosquito traps that use only CO2.  Mosquito traps that use only CO2 are ineffective against many species of human-feeding mosquitoes.

    • How do I clean my Zumba Mosquito Trap?

Generally, the Zumba Mosquito Trap does not need to be cleaned for it to work properly but may be cleaned for aesthetic reasons.  The outer fabric can be hand-washed with mild soap and water.  The dispenser can be cleaned out; however a renewal kit that includes the dispenser, capture nets, and lure is available for purchase from the Zumba website.

    • When is the best time to use my Zumba Mosquito Trap?

It is best to use the trap while mosquitoes are active.   Most mosquitoes are active one hour before sunset until two hours after sunset during the summer months (or when temperatures are above 60°F).

    • I want to take my Zumba Mosquito Trap camping.  Can it use battery power instead of an electrical outlet?

Yes, portable rechargeable battery accessory kits are available for sale on the Zumba trap website.

    • Can you identify the species of insect my Zumba Mosquito Trap caught?

Yes, ISCA Technologies can identify the species you caught, as long as the samples are sent within 48 hours of being caught and are not subjected to rain.  See the mosquito monitoring service on the Zumba website for more information and shipping guidelines.

    • Is the CO2 tank safe to have near people and pets?

Yes, the tank is filled with carbon dioxide (CO2), which people and pets respire.  The amount of CO2 produced by the Zumba Mosquito Trap is less than the amount produced by a human.

    • Is the SkinLure an insecticide ?

No, the SkinLure is not an insecticide because it does not kill insects.   It is a mixture of different odors that mosquitoes are receptive to.  It (as well as the CO2 tank) attracts mosquitoes to the trap.

    CO2 Tank and SkinLure
    • How long does the CO2 tank last if it is constantly running?

A tank can last between 25 and 150 hours, depending on its size (see table below).   The average person will not need the tank to run constantly, however, but will use it for 5 hours in the evening several times a week.

    • How long does one bottle of SkinLure last ?

One application of SkinLure is equal to half the bottle, which contains 2 applications. SkinLure should generally last about 2 days before reactivating, but will vary based on the temperature and humidity of your particular region. SkinLure will evaporate faster in warm and dry climates and slower in cold and humid climates. The lure can be reactivated 3 times through the addition of water. So, one bottle of SkinLure can last for 6 uses, or approximately 12 days.

    • Does the CO2 or SkinLure have a bad smell ?

No, CO2 gas does not have an odor and the SkinLureTM odor is very mild.

    • Can I use a larger CO2 tank?

Yes, larger tanks can be purchased from the Zumba website or from your local Zumba Mosquito Trap distributor.

    • Do I need to use the Zumba Mosquito Trap profile skirt?

No, the skirt is not necessary for the trap to work, but does serve two functions.   First, the skirt gives the illusion of a taller person, which mosquitoes may respond to.  Second, it hides the CO2 tank and wires from view, making the trap more aesthetically pleasing.

    • Where can I get my CO2 tank filled ?

ISCA Technologies' proprietary CO2 delivery system allows the tank to be filled at a variety of consumer outlets that fill paintball tanks.   This paintball network includes large retail stores and small enterprises.  Look under "paintball equipment and supplies" in your phone book or the internet to locate a company near you.
